Dear Friend,
It is amazing that it has been 51 years since the Peruvian American Medical Society (PAMS) was founded by dedicated Peruvian physicians. From the beginning, our main goals have been clear: to enhance medical education in Peru, provide medical care to underserved communities, and offer aid to those in need.
Over the years, PAMS has championed numerous milestones, each reinforcing our commitment to healthcare and education in Peru. Among our proudest achievements:
- First Cardiothoracic Unit: We established Peru’s first cardiothoracic surgery unit at the national,Hospital de Dos de Mayo, a testament to our commitment to specialized care.
- Medical Missions: Our dedicated medical missions reach the most impoverished regions of Peru, delivering much-needed medical assistance and raising healthcare standards where it's most needed.
- Polyclinic in Chincha: Operates six days a week, it delivers enhanced medical care while supporting medical education through collaborations with leading universities.
- Medical School Accreditation: In the 1990's, PAMS advocated for accrediting Peru’s medical schools, organizing forums with U.S. and Peruvian deans. Accreditation is now a reality.
PAMS is a vital resource for medical education, delivering high-quality hybrid and online webinars to students and professionals in Peru and 21 countries. Our hybrid Convention in Arequipa, Peruattracted over 800 participants. In partnership with the Association of Peruvian Faculties of Medicine (ASPEFAM) we enhance medical education and international accreditation standards in Peruvian medical schools.
We expanded our Annual Scientific Investigation Competition for medical students to include all Peruvian universities and received 73 submissions this year. The best presentations were recognized and awarded, inspiring future leaders in medicine.
Our medical missions are a testimony of the power of compassion and cooperation, offering healing and hope to those most in need. We are excited to continue our medical mission work with communities across Peru and the support of volunteers from the United States, Peru, and other countries.
We return to Peru in 2025 for our 52nd Annual Convention to be held September 8 to 12 in Chincha and Paracas. This gathering will be an opportunity to volunteer during a two-day medical mission at the PAMS Polyclinic, and participate in educational sessions to help the communities we serve.
Your generosity empowers us to deliver essential healthcare to those in need and advance medical education in Peru. This season, please consider making a difference with a meaningful holiday donation:
